I was born to save and restore Biafra' - IPOB director, Nnamdi Kanu says

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, says he was born to save and restore Biafra. According to a statement released by the Media and Publicity Secretary of the Independent People of Biafra IPOB, Emma Powerful, Kanu said this while speaking to some of his members who recently paid him a visit at Kuje prisons. The statement reads in part;

"The reason my mother gave birth to me was to restore and save Biafrans. I also promise that the Biafran race will be a cleaned up nation and all the people of Biafra will come back home, if they are living outside the country of the new nation. Our people will no longer wander on the road again. How can I encourage the people of Biafra to work towards the upbringing of Nigeria, when we don’t speak the same language, don’t eat the same food and don’t have the same culture. In fact, if we come to their land to practice our culture and religion, we will be beheaded. Their women wear hijab, and Biafran women don’t, and on the point that our women don’t wear hijab and we don’t practice the same religion, they will see us as infidels and then, we will be beheaded. We are 100 per cent Christians. These people are Muslims who see killing as a culture.
In Biafra where we originated from, it will be hard for our people to kill a human being, because in my language a human being is called MMANDU, which means in English language the beauty of life. Now, you can see it will never work, the only solution is Biafra. We are not trying to secede from Nigeria. We are older than Nigeria. You can only talk about seceding if Nigeria is the one that colonized Biafra. But we are older than that contraption. So we can’t secede rather we just want to go back the way we were before the British came. It is Biafra or nothing, Nigerians knows that.”

He was ordained in 1958... May his soul Rest in Peace (Amen).

Update: Armed men who killed Catholic priest in France shouted 'Daesh' before slitting priest's throat

This morning a Catholic priest near Normandy, City of Rouen, France was found dead after two men armed with knives took hostages at a church and slit the priest's throat. But new reports coming out of the crime scene say the knife-men shouted 'Daesh' a message in support of Islamic State (ISIS) as they launched the attack.  Before police units rushed to the church in the Normandy town of Saint-Etienne-du Rouvray and shot them dead after a long gun battle.

A spokesman for the ministry of the interior, Pierre-Henry Brandet, confirmed that the priest was dead and said another hostage was "between life and death".

Mr Brandet told French TV channel BFMTV: "The two hostage-takers came out of the church armed and it was at that point that they were neutralised by the police."

National Front leader Marine le Pen said: "More horror at Saint Etienne du Rouvray. The modus operandi obviously leads one to fear a new attack by Islamist terrorists."

Italy migrants: Nigerian killed in Fermo race attack

Emmanuel Chidi Namdi and his partner Chinyery had fled Boko Haram violence in Nigeria last year
A man has been arrested by Italian police investigating the killing of a Nigerian immigrant which the government has condemned as a racist attack.
Police say a row broke out at Fermo, a town on Italy's east coast, when racist abuse was hurled at the partner of Emmanuel Chidi Namdi, 36.
The violence escalated when a traffic pole was pulled from the ground. The victim later died in hospital.
A local man described as a well-known "ultra" football fan is being held.
Amedeo Mancini, 35, was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of racially aggravated manslaughter. His lawyer said he "did not mean to kill" and that he had punched the Nigerian in self defence.

Fleeing Boko Haram

Emmanuel Chidi fled Nigeria with his partner Chinyery, 24, after their families came under attack from jihadist group Boko Haram.
Their families were killed in an attack on a Nigerian church in 2015, Italian media reported.

As the couple made their way across the Mediterranean, their baby died.
They finally arrived in Fermo last November and were taken in by a local Christian charity. They had a wedding ceremony in January, conducted by local priest Father Vinicio Albanesi, which was unofficial because they had lost their documents, Rai TV reported.
What happened on Tuesday evening is unclear. However, it is thought that the attacker subjected Chinyery to racist chanting and then grabbed her.
At that point the traffic pole was pulled out of the ground as Emmanuel Chidi and his attacker came to blows. He was taken to hospital in a coma but never recovered.

#Emmanuel trending across Italy

Local churches which have worked with migrants have recently been targeted by small bombs, according to Father Vinicio Albanesi.

Prime Minister Matteo Renzi was among many across Italy who took to social media to express disgust at the killing, using the hashtag Emmanuel.
"The government today is in Fermo with Don Vinicio and the local institutions in memory of Emmanuel. Against hate, racism and violence," he wrote.
Visiting the town, Interior Minister Angelino Alfano told reporters on Thursday that the seed of racism had to be stopped before it could bear fruit. "The heart of Italy isn't represented by those who carried out this murder."
He also announced that Emmanuel Chidi's partner Chinyery had been granted refugee status.

I wept, fasted before God gave me Osinachi โ€“Humble Smith

Osinachi

I wept, fasted before God gave me Osinachi –Humble Smith

For Ekene Ijemba, music runs in the family. His father was a disc jockey and mother also loved singing. But he took this a notch higher when be became a professional musician. Today, the artist popularly known as Humble Smith is a household name with his hit song, Osinachi, which has become a sort of national anthem. In this interview, he shares the experiences behind the song.
How did you start music?                                                                                                                                            I have been doing music since I was a kid. The whole thing started when I was six. My father was a disc jockey and my mom sang very well. So music runs in the family, it runs in the blood. Everything put together motivated me to fall in love with music.
Tell us a bit about your background?                                                                                                                                      I was born and brought up in Ebonyi State. We are a family of 10, with eight children all brought up in Ebonyi State. Life was very tough. I grew up listening to Bright Chimezie; he was my mentor from the age of six. I formed a group called the ‘American Boys’. It was the first time I knew I was going to play music. In the group, we danced, sang and acted. In 1996, we did a concert in church and the response from family members and other people was good. Since then, I have been eager to do music. I decided that I would take music more professionally. So, while growing up, I started meeting more professionals that saw a whole lot in me, that encouraged and advised me on how to go about playing music. Then I started going to the studios, I started writing songs for people. Apart from music, I also used to play football and I used to act. I love acting. When I was in secondary school, I was the drama director. I wasn’t the drama director until I did something in school that made me the director. They handed over the school drama group to me.
How did you get the name Humble Smith?
Back in Ebonyi State, there was a time people started calling me ‘Humble’. Most times people choose names for you, someone would just see you and say you look like something or someone and give you a name. That’s how people just started calling me ‘Humble’ and I like the name. But the only thing is that I had to leave up to the name. People calling me humble and I am not humble is not good. I am an artist so I decided to add ‘Smart’ to the name. First it was ‘Humble Smart’ until one blessed day one MC introduced me on stage as ‘Humble Smith’. It wasn’t a mistake; I think it was my friend that gave ‘Humble Smith’ instead of ‘Humble Smart’ so the MC introduced me as ‘Humble Smith’ instead of ‘Humble Smart’ so, I decided to stick with that name.
You talked so much about acting, are we expecting you to join Nollywood in the nearest future?
I am a registered member of AGN. I left Ebony State for Asaba because I discovered that Nollywood had a bigger structure in Asaba. I went to Asaba not for music but for movies, to know more, to meet stars, and to see if I could make it in the movie world. When I got to Asaba, I tried doing acting but it wasn’t working for me. I needed to tell myself the truth. I was much younger and I didn’t have money to sponsor or produce a movie of my own. And there was no way I could convince anybody to give me the kind of role I wanted to play because I was not there yet. So, I decided to join the crew. I did a whole lot. I worked as a Personal Assistant, I worked as a brooms-man, but at the end of the day music was still working for me.
How did you get the inspiration for your hit song, Osinachi?
Before Osinachi, I had about four singles. I had a feeling that I was going to be a star because I have worked hard. Nothing was actually working for me after those singles. I even had to travel to London to shoot two music videos. So, at a stage, I was confused if the thing I have been doing was the right thing for me. One day, I went to church; I fasted and prayed but it was as if nothing was happening. Some people advised me to go back to the east, to go back to the village that there was no room for me in Lagos; and that music wasn’t my career. So, I went to church on this fateful day, I went to pray but ended up not praying. I was just thinking. At a point, I began to cry and then something just came to my mind, that ‘young man, you are here crying, wasting your time. When you are supposed to be out there hustling, creating good songs, you are here crying and complaining, when you have hands, legs, brain and everything. Stop complaining and appreciate God for the little He has done for you, let Him know you still appreciate Him and use what He has blessed you with to encourage people’. It was good news to me. So, I thought about doing something different from what I have been doing. I wrote the song, Osinachi, there in the church, came back home and told my producer, who produced the song featuring Phyno. The song went viral. Thank God for that. I never knew God had bigger plans. At the beginning of the year, Davido called me to do a remix of the song. But meanwhile, last year when I dropped the song, I personally took it to Davido. I gave him my CD and he said that he has been seeing my work and that the song was going to be a hit, and finally the song became a hit. So, he called for the remix. God bless Davido. Today, Osinachi is one of the biggest songs in Africa if not the biggest.
In the song, you talked about your ‘loving daughter’; do you have a child?
I don’t sing for myself, my music is for everybody. I sing songs that when you listening to them, you can also sing them to yourself as if they are your songs. I don’t have any child. I said ‘I go name my first daughter, Osinachi’. So, for those of you who have kids out there, you can name your first daughter Osinachi. But if you don’t have and you plan to have, you can say ‘I go’ which is what I said. Maybe, my first daughter would be named Osinachi by God’s grace.
What do you think about Davido bringing his personal issues into the song?
That’s music for you, that is the way I understand music. For example, I told you about my story, what I went through that gave me inspiration for Osinachi, and how I poured out my anger, my experience, and my feelings into the song. I told you that I fasted and prayed, went to church crying and something came to my mind, telling me that I was wasting my time, when I was even better than many people in the street. That is being creative. It is not easy to recreate what is happening around you into music. Music is not all about I can sing, music is business; you need to make it commercial, something that would make people talk about it. That’s how you make your money. So, in essence, Davido did justice to his part in the song.
Did your parents want to force a career on you?
Every parent has a choice of career for his or her child. My mom wanted a priest in the family. We are Catholic and I tried being a priest, which my mom wanted me to be. My dad wanted me to be a footballer, but at the end of the day, music was what that worked for me. I never disobeyed them. I served mass, I followed Reverend Fathers, but at the end of the day, music is still the thing that is working for me.
What is your educational background?
I stopped after secondary school but I have plans to further my education.
What project are you working on presently?
Currently, we are working on a song. Also, I am working on my European tour, which is coming up very soon. It was meant to start from July 1st to July 31st, but we might shift it because more countries have applied for the tour. So, we need to restructure everything before we begin. I still have two singles to drop before the year runs out. Next year, we would then take the brand to another level.
What is your dream collaboration?
I would like to work with Chris Brown and Justin Bieber by God’s grace.
Who are your role models in the industry?
My first and forever mentor is Bright Chimezie. But I look up to a whole lot of people like Harrysong, Tuface Idibia, Wizkid and Davido. Internationally, I look up to Chris Brown.
What’s your advice to upcoming artists?
Anyone that wants to achieve what I have achieved should as well know what I went through. What I found out is that if you must chop you must work. In Nigeria, most people just want to chop but they don’t want to work. You are lazy but not lazy to chop. If you want to be successful, work. If you must chop you must work. Believe in what you do, don’t allow anyone to discourage you.

Euro 2016: No Ronaldo worries for Wales

Wales most influential player, Gareth Bale, says himself and his teammates are not thinking of Ronaldo as they gear up for tomorrow’s semi final showdown against Portugal.
Bale spoke just as he resorted to training alone ahead of the encounter.
The Real Madrid forward said yesterday that Ronaldo’s presence in Portugal’s squad was no big deal as the match is all about two nations in a semi final of a tournament.
“It’s not about two players, its about two nations in a semi final, 11 men against 11 men…Ronaldo is a fantastic player no doubt, we have always spoken about what we can do as a team. We don’t worry about the opposition,” Bale said.
Meanwhile, Bale trained apart from his teammates yesterday.
While Bale’s teammates warmed up on the pitch at the team’s training base in Dinard, northwest France, the Real Madrid star and midfielder David Edwards were put through their paces by a fitness coach.
A Football Association of Wales spokesman told AFP that Bale was not injured.
Defender Ben Davies and in-form midfielder Aaron Ramsey were present, despite both being suspended for tomorrow’s game in Lyon.
The only absentee from the 23-man squad was winger David Cotterill, who observes a customised training schedule devised in consultation with his club, Birmingham City.
Wales qualified for the first major tournament semifinal in their history by beating Belgium 3-1 in Lille last Friday.
They are due to train in Dinard again today before storming Lyon later in the day.

Photos: Shocking moment a knife-wielding man attacks a woman in broad daylight

A man was filmed attacking a woman with a knife in broad daylight, at a busy roadside in Datong City, Shanxi province, northern China. From the video shared, it looked like he was trying to kill her by trying to stab her several times with a large knife as she lay on the road.

The Maniac stayed on top of her and tried to cut her as she screamed for help. Trying to escape from his grasp, she courageously fought back, grabbing his wrist in a desperate bid to protect herself.

What was disturbing about this video was that no one tried to help her, including the person filming it. It was a brave man who spotted them from the other side of the road that rushed over to her rescue and overpowered the frenzied street slasher from behind. Several male passersbys who were closer now joined to beat and tie him up. Local police have reportedly started an investigation into the crime. It's unclear if the man knew the woman...

Linus Idahosa’s response to the Bill seeking to reduce the age qualification for candidates wishing to contest for elective offices

Below is what he thinks...
We often forget that Jesus Christ is our biggest example of a Youth Leader, who at 33 was done and had raised disciples, who centuries later are still influencing and gathering billions of adherents the world over.
My take has always been and will continue to be that Wisdom, Leadership and the Capacity to chart a path to a prosperous nation is not and cannot be the exclusive preserve of those above 40, but it is an inherent quality that providence bestows on one and the challenges of life help to enhance, refine and sharpen in one.

At any rate, no man lives forever and failure to deliberately, conscientiously and willingly transfer power to succeeding generations in their prime is a contradiction and an aberrant life cycle unknown to nature and trust me; nature always corrects itself.

It’s one thing for the bill to be passed; it’s another thing for the Nigerian youth to rise to the occasion, because the system as presently constituted is not designed to give it on a platter; instead it prides itself in creating a generation of Special Assistants (SA’s). It’s entirely up to the Nigerian youth to activate and enforce the strength of its number.

Belgian security is keeping security levels the same. Benoit Ramacker, spokesman for the Crisis Centre said:
“We are still on level three, quite a high level of threat.”

Drug addict beheads his blind mother and a neighbour

A man high on an inhaled solvent has been arrested for stabbing and beheading his blind mother and a male neighbour in Si Wilai district, Bangkok.

According to Police Captain Seksan Nahom, a deputy investigation chief at Si Wilai police station, the gruesome murders occurred at Nong Chan village of this northeastern province.
Police received a report of the crime about 2.30pm on Monday. On arrival at the scene they found the headless body of a man, identified later as Samruay Yodsaeng, 59, lying beside a bamboo tree with a deep stab wound in the back.

The alleged killer, Khet Pimthaphor, 42, had locked himself inside his one-storey house with his mother Suk Pimthaphor, 72, who was crying for help, Thai media reported.
Pol Col Winai Mahapolsirikhun ordered officers to surround the house to find ways to help the elderly woman being held hostage by her son, who was reportedly addicted to glue.

Negotiations for the woman's release and her son's surrender were not successful. When the elderly woman's crying and pleading suddenly fell silent police stormed the house.

They stopped dead and then pulled back when confronted with the sight of Mr Khet holding his mother's severed head at the door to the bathroom. When police re-enetered the house they found Mr Khet had locked himself in the bsedroom. They forced open the door and arrested him. Police said the man was delirious and confused.
The headless body of his mother was found in the room with him. She had been stabbed several times in the chest. The heads of the two victims were found together in a bowl in the bathroom. The floor of the house was stained with blood.

Mr Khet was taken to a hospital for treatment of a knife wound to his left foot. It was believed he injured himself during his frenzied attack on his mother. Police found three large knives, each about 60cm long, in the house. He was initially charged with murder and held in custody.
