Give To Charity, Cleric Urges Muslims

A Muslim cleric, Dr Rafiu Owonla, has advised Muslim faithful to imbibe the virtue of giving to charity as it will help them obtain Allah’s favour. Owonla, who is the Deputy Chief Imam of Kubwa Muslim Community, Abuja, gave the advice on Sunday at a fund-raising event for the Guidna Mosque Madarasa (Islamic School).
He described charity an investment, which rewards would be enjoyed in the hereafter.
“Invest in the hereafter by spending for the cause of Allah. Whatever we do for the sake of Allah, we shall enjoy the rewards, both on earth and in the hereafter,” he said.
The cleric said that seeking knowledge, transferring knowledge and charity could be described as the best form of Jihad.
Jihad in Islam does not entail violence and killings. Spreading true Islamic knowledge and spending in the way of Allah are acts of Jihad, which are recommended for Muslims,’’ he added.
Alhaji Shittu Obasa, Chairman of the Guidna Mosque Management Committee, said that the Madarasa project was important because of the need to teach Muslim children and youths moral values.
Obasa, who said that Islam was grossly misunderstood in some quarters, urged all Muslims to be good ambassadors of the faith always.
“This project is important in view of the need to inculcate in our youths, the moral values that will make them acceptable and responsible in the society. Our religion is being misunderstood today largely due to the conduct of some adherents, who have not acquired the right knowledge. Islam encourages us to strive to acquire the basic knowledge before practising it, and this project will go a long way to helping our youths acquire this knowledge,” he said.
