The 48-year-old took charge of the two AFCON 2017 qualifiers against Egypt, which ended in the Eagles failing to qualify for the tournament. According to him, the AFCON debacle will not stop him from succeeding is he eventually gets the deal to lead the team. “I won’t shy away from the Eagles job because of two failed attempts to deliver,” Siasia said in a chat with media on Monday at the Glass House. “Those two occasions were on interim basis and so should not be used to judge what I am capable of doing as a big coach. Egypt were just fortunate to get a draw in Kaduna and beat us narrowly in Alexandria. With little luck, we should have beaten them but God knows best. “As for the Super Eagles job, it is only God who gives jobs and I believe that if the time comes, it will surely come. I don’t have anything to prove as a coach because I have done well in all my assignments and if the job comes I will take it and deliver. “We trained for 10 days to face Egypt and I am happy with the support I got from the players, coaches, fans, media and the NFF. “Super Eagles is still a work in progress and I believe the set of players who played against Egypt would go places because they are young and talented,” he concluded.
