As the 2016 Olympics in Rio approaches, and Super Eagles not
participating in any tournament this summer, there has been a lot of
lobbying from players, agents and sports media personalities to take
certain Super Eagles players to the Olympics in Rio.
Olympics rules state that the football team of any nation is allowed to take three over aged (over 23 years) players to the tournament. According to reports, former Super Eagles coach Austin Eguavoen has urged Samson Siasia to pick Mikel Obi and Odion Ighalo to the event due to their style of play and match winning capabilities.

But coach Samson Siasia has
said that while the suggestion by Eguavoen to pick the players is a nice
one, he will only pick players who fit into the areas his current
Olympics team lack quality in, saying he will pick the overage players
at the right time.
'We need to look at the areas we need help, and those are the areas we
need to invite the over age players to supplement. Good suggestion, but
still i can't make that decision right now' Siasia said to
